Rupert's big Dow Jones deal is now "highly unlikely" to succeed. That's good news for the news industry, even if it has sent certain stocks crashing.
Mind you, I would expect Murdoch to come back for another bite - perhaps even with a lower offer - after the Bancroft family have a chance to digest their new reality. But for the time being, the wolf is away from their door - now would be a good time for the family to think about how to run a real newspaper business.
